Santa Susanna Chalck Stream

Rivodutri (Rieti-Lazio)

It originates from a spring in the Municipality of Rivodutri and winds its way to the northern limit of the Rieti plain for a length of about 7 kilometers, flows into the Velino River bringing in a significant amount of water (about 5500 liters per second). It is a classic “chalk stream” of always abundant, clean and constant temperature waters, with abundant aquatic vegetation anchored to the bottom. Typical chalck stream, good for expert fly fishermen. Selective trout swim in these clear waters.  Is good for whole fishing season,  has never muddy water, but gives the best for the dry fly fishing from August until the end of the season:  Also on March/April, during the midday hatch, we have the possibility to hook some extra large trout  with small flies.  This river is restricted to classic fly-fishing-only and catch-and-release regulations. Fishing is carried out mostly with dry flies, and nimphs imitating the very rich presence of mayflies and caddis.  It is following the philosophy of catch and release from the last century.  The river flows  less one hour by car far from Rome.
